RESEARCH - WHAT TO DO
Your blog should represent your thinking about, and analysis of, the thriller genre and film production.
It should be like on online portfolio made up of a collection of images, links, analysis notes, discussions and ideas.
It should demonstrate clear evidence of the films, images and theories that have inspired your own ideas for the project. By reading your blog I should be able to trace your influences and make direct links between your production work and your research.
DO: develop it as you go along, make it your own, comment on everything you put on it, relate back to theory work completed in class and keep it as visual and varied as possible, quality better than quantity
DON'T: post random video clips and images without any analysis, post great chunks of someone else's text, stray from thriller into horror/action-adventure/sci-fi/drama etc, go for quantity without quality.
What to include:
moodboards - visual representations of thriller
Useful weblinks
Film sites - analyse a favourite
Explorations of theory discussed in class - applied to chosen films or scenes
Film stills with analysis
DVD covers with analysis
Short sequences with analysis
How to. . . clips - continuity, fx etc
Definitions of the genre
Research on a particular sub-genre you are interested in
Notes from your reading around the genre
A record of your thriller screenings
Discussion of thrillers that have inspired you
Your own thriller related stills
Research into a particular director who interests you
British film research, particularly UK independent thrillers and thrillers from the past
Anything else completed in the run up to production - it's your 'portfolio' so what you include is up to you. There's no deadline as such at the moment, but I will be making regular progress checks and leaving you comments, both positive and critical!
