SHOOTING DATES
Your fixed shooting dates need to go in your planners and should be confirmed at home with your parents:
Test shoot weekend:
Sat 24th - Mon 26th Nov
Main Shoot:
Sat 1st -Sun 2nd Dec
Re-shoot:
Sat 8th - Sun 9th Dec
During each shoot weekend, you will need to complete a minimum of 2 sessions - a session is 4 hours - either 9-1 or 1-5 - or an equivalent chosen by the group and agreed with Ms B.
It is highly likely you will choose to shoot at other times as well during this 3 week period (evenings, free periods, media lessons) - that's fine as long as the group are in agreement.
Make sure your family know you are booked up for these weekends. If you have a part-time job, you will need to liaise with your employer now and book the time off - it is not an option to go to work during these sessions.
Any problems or concerns see Ms Blackborow asap.

ASSESSMENT
You will be assessed on the following tasks between now and November - some written, some practical. The results of these will form the basis of the progress reports that I will complete in November:
1. practical work and written reflections on your own thriller still
2. written analysis of allocated film still
3. dvd cover analysis
4. practical task - camera
5. practical task - continuity
6. your ongoing blog development
I will also take into account:
1. your verbal contributions in class
2. the way you prepare for lessons
3. your ability to meet a deadline and follow instructions
4. your efforts to keep up to date with work
Your individual and group blogs will eventually be submitted to OCR as evidence to support the mark you have achieved for coursework research, planning and pre-production. This is how the marks break down:
Research, planning and pre-production = 30 marks
Production (filming) and post-production (editing) 60 marks
Essay (30 marks)
Total = 120 marks
You would have to score around 98 marks to achieve an A for your coursework. If your film end product isn't quite as fantastic as you want it to be, you can still do well with great R+P and a really sound essay; it makes sense to get these right as you just never know with the production - anything could happen!
Hope this is useful

RESEARCH - WHAT TO DO
Your blog should represent your thinking about, and analysis of, the thriller genre and film production.
It should be like on online portfolio made up of a collection of images, links, analysis notes, discussions and ideas.
It should demonstrate clear evidence of the films, images and theories that have inspired your own ideas for the project. By reading your blog I should be able to trace your influences and make direct links between your production work and your research.
DO: develop it as you go along, make it your own, comment on everything you put on it, relate back to theory work completed in class and keep it as visual and varied as possible, quality better than quantity
DON'T: post random video clips and images without any analysis, post great chunks of someone else's text, stray from thriller into horror/action-adventure/sci-fi/drama etc, go for quantity without quality.
What to include:
moodboards - visual representations of thriller
Useful weblinks
Film sites - analyse a favourite
Explorations of theory discussed in class - applied to chosen films or scenes
Film stills with analysis
DVD covers with analysis
Short sequences with analysis
How to. . . clips - continuity, fx etc
Definitions of the genre
Research on a particular sub-genre you are interested in
Notes from your reading around the genre
A record of your thriller screenings
Discussion of thrillers that have inspired you
Your own thriller related stills
Research into a particular director who interests you
British film research, particularly UK independent thrillers and thrillers from the past
Anything else completed in the run up to production - it's your 'portfolio' so what you include is up to you. There's no deadline as such at the moment, but I will be making regular progress checks and leaving you comments, both positive and critical!
Hope this helps, Ms B x

HAPPY BLOGGING YEAR 12!
Hello all
we need to get you up and blogging today. You should aim to customise the look of your blog and make sure you know how to add the following:
-posts
-stills
-links to video clips
-linked lists
-labels
Key language to get used to:
dashboard - (where the dept stores + manages all the blogs)
customise - where you can add features and change things around
page elements - such as linked lists, archive posts, comments etc
Whenever you log onto your blog, you should remember to go via the dept thriller blog (the mothership if you like), so you can check to see if there are any messages for the class.
Look out for comments on your blog as well - from me or maybe from another student.
Start with the basics and work up, you'll soon get the hang of it.
Media Dept blogging code of conduct - stick to media related posts, nothing offensive or abusive, including comments on other people's blogs, no messing with other people's blogs. Offenders will be kicked off the blog, so don't abuse it.
Your individual blog will be evidence of your work in progress - research, early ideas etc - so make sure you develop it over time and give it lots of tlc!! When you have decided your production groups, your individual blogs will link from your group blogs, which will also link from the main blog. You will use the group blog for all your pre-production work - planning, group diary etc.
For information on what to put on your individual blog, see my next post!
